In Brasilia, CIR dialogues with MEC on the strengthening of specific and differentiated indigenous school education at the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Training and Culture Center

The following were discussed: needs for public policies that recognize and strengthen an education built from the realities of indigenous territories in Roraima.

Representatives of the The Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) participated, on September 30, in a dialogue agenda with the Ministry of Education (MEC), in Brasilia, to present the demands related to indigenous education and strengthen actions developed by the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Training and Culture Center (CIFCRSS).

Participated in the agenda the coordinator of CIFCRSS, Clemilse Monteiro Taurepang, and the General Tuxaua of the Indigenous Women's Movement, Kelliane Wapichana. On behalf of the MEC, the participants Sandra Grützmacher, Director of Vocational Education Policy and Evaluation and Technological; Paulo Vinicius Silva de Santana, Technical Analyst in Social Policies and Focal Point of the Board of Directors; and Tarcísio Fernandes Leão, General Coordinator of Evaluation of Professional and Technological Education.

According to Kelliane Wapichana, the conversation aimed to expand educational actions and institutional development developed by the CIFCRSS, in addition to establishing a space for listening and dialogue between indigenous organizations and the public authorities.

"For us, strengthening the CIFCRSS is to strengthen the autonomy, education and future of indigenous peoples. É ensure that our young people have access to quality technical training, without losing the connection with the territories, cultures and their knowledge traditional", says the tuxaua.

During the meeting, the main needs of the CIFCRSS were presented, with emphasis on the challenges related to the National Education Information System (SISTEC), used to update the registrations and student enrollment and for the maintenance of active students in the educational system.

It was also given to II Letter of Canauanim, with demands collectively constructed in the month of May 2026 by indigenous peoples during the seminar "Higher education at the Federal University of Roraima (UFRR): advances, challenges and perspectives".

The Indigenous Center of Raposa Serra do Sol Training and Culture (CIFCRSS), located in the Community Barro Indigenous Region, Surumu region, currently has 19 students from different peoples enrolled, 14 men and five women, with high school education focused on areas of Agricultural Technician and Environmental Management.

Throughout his trajectory, the institution has contributed to the training of indigenous youth, taking into account the needs of each territory and strengthening the construction of a social, political and cultural future based on the good living of the indigenous peoples of Roraima.
