With the theme "Fight, defend the rights of indigenous peoples and strengthen to win", the Extraordinary Assembly took place last Wednesday (24) in the Dionito Macuxi decision auditorium, at the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Training and Culture Center, with the presence of leaders, including men, women, young people and children from different communities and organizations.
The Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) participated in the important event, represented by Amarildo Macuxi, General Tuxaua, and by Kelliane Wapichana, General Tuxaua of the Indigenous Women's Movement and representatives of the departments of Indigenous Territorial Monitoring and Surveillance, Rutî Indigenous Fund, Environmental Territorial Management and Climate Change (DGTAMC), in addition to the organization's Legal Counsel.
The objective of the Extraordinary Assembly was to seek dialogue and clarification with indigenous organizations and institutions about the situation of the territory, health and indigenous school education today. About the territory, important points were highlighted, such as the demarcation in a continuous area, the land situation and the complaints of invasion by political projects that have been getting worse and worse within the communities.
During his participation, the General Tuxaua of the CIR, Amarildo Macuxi, highlighted that the union of communities is fundamental for the defense of conquered rights and the protection of indigenous territories.
"Each indigenous organization has its own banner of struggle. The CIR was created to fight to guarantee the rights of indigenous peoples, especially territorial rights, in addition to health and education. These are fundamental pillars to guarantee the freedom and well-being of our people. We need to remain united to defend our territories and strengthen our communities in the face of the challenges we face", said Amarildo Macuxi.
The Legal Department of the CIR advised the leaders on territorial monitoring, the rules of the consultation protocols, and the necessary procedures so that the leaders can communicate possible threats or irregularities that affect the territories and collective rights.
"The Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land has a consultation protocol, and everything that affects community life must be decided collectively. It is not an activity for the economic exploitation of a specific group, as the impacts affect the entire community. It is essential that these initiatives are well defined and within the regulations, so that they do not harm the community, the environment and the way the activity will be developed", highlighted Fernanda Wapichana.
The CIR, through the departments and executive coordination, has developed important activities in the indigenous territories and the information about it has been passed on to those present, such as the implementations of the Life Plan (PGTA) of the regions that make up the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land, the Second Call for projects by the Rutî Indigenous Fund, the integrated meeting of the actors that will take place in the Caracaranã Lake in July and other information about the workshops and meetings that have taken place during the past months to date.
At the assembly, the Regional Regulations of the Surumu Region were also delivered, prepared with the leaders and systematized by the Legal Department. The document represents an important instrument for strengthening the regional organization, contributing to legal security, community management and collective decision-making by the leaders and communities of the region.
For the regional coordinator of Tuxauas in the Surumu region, the regiment is an advance in the region so that the communities can know what was decided as a rule in the construction of the document.
"Today we have this document in hand, we are aware of what we decided when we were preparing it together with the legal team of the CIR, so this is an advance for our region, I will pass on a copy to each tuxaua of the community to follow and present to their community, so that the regiment is complied with". Highlighted Nazareno Macuxi, Regional Coordinator.
The Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) continues to monitor the regional assemblies and reinforces its performance in the struggle to guarantee the rights of indigenous peoples and territorial rights.
