The Federal University of Roraima (UFRR), in partnership with the Insikiran Institute, produced a series of videos aimed at informing the indigenous peoples of the state about the symptoms and ways to avoid contagion of Covid-19. The material was recorded in the languages of the ethnic groupsMacuxi, Taurepang, Taurepang Pemom, Wapichana, Yanomami and Ye'kwana.
The videos of the "Let's All Take Care of Everyone" campaign, by UFRR, are to help reduce the curve of spread of cases of the new coronavirus in the state. The material is being broadcast on TV Universitária, channel 2.1 and is also available onYoutube(See the videos below). The Macuxi version was recorded by lawyer Ivo Cípio Macuxi, who is part of the legal team of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR).
"At a sensitive time like this, with the threat of the Coronavirus, we find ourselves completely vulnerable and indigenous peoples are even more vulnerable. That indigenous person who does not understand Portuguese needs and has the right to have an explanation in his language," said Ananda Machado, a professor at Insikiran.
