SESAI VEHICLE IS USED FOR ILLEGAL TRANSPORT OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IN THE RAPOSA SERRA DO SOL INDIGENOUS LAND

Leaders of the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land, in the Serras region, seized this Friday (15) at the Armando Silva Territorial Surveillance Post, Centro Willimom, Polo Base Caracanã, a car from the company Asa Tur model Hilux plate NUI 8537, fleet 18469, which provides services to the Special Secretariat for Indigenous Health (SESAI), transporting 22 cases of alcoholic beverages.

When approached, the driver said he was going to the Flechal community, and then to Caracanã to drop off patients and medicines, but in the search carried out by the leaders in the body of the vehicle, only the beer-type beverage boxes and no medicines were found. The driver, who fled, also did not want to identify himself, but the leaders informed that he is known as Max.

After the seizure, all drinks were destroyed while still on site. Another worrying factor during the approach was that the driver, as reported in a document by security guards and those present at the scene, got into the car quickly, made a sudden reverse maneuver almost colliding with another private car that was coming from behind and fled without a destination.

In view of the serious event, indigenous leaders from the Willimom Center, Serra Region, demand an immediate response from SESAI and local authorities. The leaders also report that, "unfortunately, they have been feeling the impacts of illicit activities in the region, such as the increase in violence, chemical dependency and internal conflicts that have intensified".

The regional leaders repudiated the use of SESAI cars, which should transport medicines, patients and provide continuous aid, especially at this time of combating the Covid-19 pandemic, which are bringing instability to the communities, and also inform that it is not the first case of cars that should provide services within indigenous lands, transporting alcoholic beverages.

After receiving the complaint formalized by the leaders of the Serras region, the Legal Counsel of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) will file the case next Monday (18) with the National Indian Foundation (FUNAI) and the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) to demand investigation and action.
