On the afternoon of Wednesday (19) the São Mateus indigenous community was intimidated by the Shock Troop of the Military Police of Roraima. Part of the PMs were without masks, ignoring Covid-19 prevention measures. Even with the leaders peacefully complying with the court decision that determined the unblocking of RR 171, which passes through their territory, located in the São Mateus community, Raposa Serra do Sol indigenous land. At the site, the leaders were mobilized to combat the circulation of alcoholic beverages, mining materials, stolen vehicles, among others, in addition to Covid-19.
The leaders informed that they will demand in court that the Union, FUNAI, IBAMA and PF comply with their constitutional obligations to protect and inspect the Indigenous Land, especially for the immediate removal of illegal miners, and the installation of sanitary barriers against Covid-19. They will also request the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) to investigate and denounce indigenous people and associations that encourage and participate in mining in the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land, which was demarcated and ratified after a struggle that took more than 30 years.
