REVISION OF THE PGTA (Territorial and Territorial Management Plan) FOR THE RAPOSA SERRA DO SOL INDIGENOUS LAND STRENGTHENS TERRITORIAL MANAGEMENT

The Lago Caracaranã Regional Center, located in the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Territory, is hosting the review activity of the Territorial and Environmental Management Plan (PGTA) for the Baixo Cotingo and Raposa regions, also integrating the review of the PGTA for Santa Cruz.

The event, organized by the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR), started yesterday, Thursday (30), and continues until February 2nd, bringing together around 120 indigenous leaders, including 26 Tuxauas from the Raposa region, 22 Tuxauas from Baixo Cotingo, as well as representatives from communities including traditional women and youth leaders, totaling the participation of around 80 communities linked to the territory.

Sineia do Vale, who coordinates the Department of Territorial Environmental Management and Climate Change (DGTAMC), explained a bit about the revision of the PGTAs.

"This activity of reviewing the Territorial and Environmental Management Plans (PGTAs) that we have been developing in Roraima, or life plans, is an important moment. We are reviewing the territorial and environmental management plans, which have a cycle of two to three years, to assess what has been implemented, what demands made 10, 5 or 2 years ago need to be reviewed, included or removed."

The initiative aims to update environmental, cultural, and economic management strategies, ensuring the protection of natural resources and strengthening the autonomy of indigenous peoples.

The Federal University of Roraima (UFRR) was present as a partner institution, contributing to the discussions.

The revision of the PGTA stands out as a milestone for the indigenous movement, promoting dialogue and the appreciation of traditional knowledge.

The decisions made during the meeting will guide priority actions, such as land management, food security, and the defense of indigenous rights.

Raposa Serra do Sol is a benchmark in territorial management, as are other indigenous lands, which primarily maintain the commitment to sharing information and dialogue about activities and actions that contribute to strengthening the regions with everyone.

The event has the support of Niatero, Terra Brasilis, the International Institute of Education of Brazil (IEB), and Operation Native Amazon (OPAN), reinforcing the importance of partnerships for the implementation of sustainable policies.
