Serra da Lua Region: neighborhood of the Pium community receives from the CIR kit to strengthen the flour house

To fortify the production of flour in the Pium community, more specifically in the place known as the Calungá neighborhood, in the Serra da Lua region, the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) through the Secretary General of the Indigenous Women's Movement, Maria Betânia Macuxi, delivered on October 22, a kit for the flour house.

The community already has a flour house, but with little equipment that did not meet the demands of all residents. With the help of the CIR, an oven, motor and a peccary ball were delivered to grate the cassava.

According to Mrs. Tereza Augustino, a resident of the place, even with the pandemic the community did not stop producing. And all the families work in the manufacture of flour, so the process was slow.

According to Mrs. Tereza, only one family worked at a time and she and the others waited several days for theirs to arrive. "Before I used to stand in line waiting, but now with the kit we received from the CIR, it will help a lot here in our neighborhood," she said.

Secretary Maria Betânia highlighted the importance of production to complement the family income of residents. In addition to taking care of the territory, they work with sustainability.

"This support will be used for the work with the production of flour and other derivatives. The activities are carried out in a sustainable way to take care of our mother earth, nature, our territories", highlighted Betânia.

The tuxaua Lázaro Alexandre seeks to strengthen the community of Pium and the Serra da Lua region. "This help comes to benefit my relatives, we just have to thank them", he highlighted.

The initiative is supported by the CIR in partnership with the Institute for Climate and Society (ICS).
