Indigenous April 2023 has begun, and Indigenous peoples in their territories are preparing for the largest Indigenous mobilization in Brazil, the Free Land Camp (ATL). The Indigenous peoples of Roraima, following the national schedule, are also preparing to hold the IV Free Land Camp (ATL), from the 24th to the 28th, in Boa Vista/RR, and a delegation of Indigenous leaders from Roraima will accompany them to Brasília.
The schedule is still being organized, but indigenous peoples are expected to bring pending demands to the mobilization, such as the land tenure situation of indigenous lands, especially those in the demarcation process, invasions by illegal mining, soy farming and others, as well as indigenous health and education in the state of Roraima.
One of the main topics is the resumption of the Temporal Framework trial at the Supreme Federal Court (STF), which will judge Extraordinary Appeal (RE) 1017365, with general repercussion, where it discusses whether the date of the promulgation of the Federal Constitution, October 5, 1988, should be adopted as the temporal framework for defining the traditional occupation of land by indigenous peoples.
With anticipation, indigenous peoples await the end and overturning of the well-known "time frame thesis," and to reaffirm once and for all that the occupation of indigenous territories did not begin on October 5, 1988. The occupation is traditional and ancestral.
During a visit to the Paraná village in the Javari Valley (AM) on March 21, the minister and president of the STF, Rosa Weber, stated that she will schedule the trial for the first half of this year.
