With the beginning of the Indigenous April agenda, the Indigenous Youth Center of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) met yesterday (04), the youth coordinators of the regions, Amajari, Alto Cauamé, Murupu, Raposa, Serra da Lua, Serras, Surumu and Tabaio, to evaluate the activities of 2022 and plan 2023, in addition to providing general information on the performance of youth in the regions. The meeting took place at the CIR headquarters, in Boa Vista.
One of the issues discussed was the holding of the State Assembly of Indigenous Youth of Roraima, later this year. The meeting was attended by the secretary of the Indigenous Women's Movement, Kelliane Wapichana, the deputy coordinator of the CIR, Enock Taurepang and the state coordinators of Youth, Raquel Viana and Messias Macuxi.
The Youth coordinator, Raquel, highlighted the importance of the meeting of leaders, in order to align the work carried out in indigenous communities and regions. "With this comes the strengthening of the bases through workshops and meetings that are being held by the regional Youth coordinators within their region, where they have been addressing various themes, on the family, mental health, cultural and traditional strengthening, and how to strengthen themselves as youth in the indigenous movement", she highlighted.
Viana highlighted the existence of the Nucleus since 2015, but still in 2011, the conversation circles were already taking place to organize the movement. He cited as pioneers in this construction, the indigenous youth, Enock Taurepang, Cirilo Aruak and Romário Wapichana, all grassroots leaders and students, who saw the need for youth representation in the indigenous movement of Roraima.
He recalled that during one of the extended meetings they defended the creation of the Nucleus in the organizational structure of the CIR. The effective action began in 2017, with the coordination of Alcebias Sapará, which remained until 2022. Fruit of the indigenous youth movement, Alcebias is currently deputy coordinator of the Coordination of Indigenous Organizations of the Brazilian Amazon (COIAB).
The Indigenous Youth Nucleus operates in 09 ethno-regions, of the Macuxi, Wapichana, Taurepang and Patamona peoples. The Yanomami and Ingaricó regions still do not have representatives in the Nucleus. "We have started to work on political education and we have already brought together almost two thousand young people in assemblies in the last assembly, a very important step and milestone", stressed Raquel.
