CIR Youth Center promotes series of workshops for young indigenous students

The Indigenous Youth Center of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) began this Monday (10) a series of workshops with the theme: "Ajuri of the Strengthening of Traditional Knowledge". Carried out in partnership with the International Institute of Education of Brazil (IEB) and PACT, the activities take place at the Indigenous Center for Training and Culture Raposa Serra do Sol (CIFCRSS), in Surumu, and are aimed at the center's students.

The "Ajuri of the strengthening of traditional knowledge" consists of four workshops with the following themes: Sustainability and Projects (Department of Territorial and Environmental Management and Department of Projects), Photography, Audiovisual and GIS (Department of Communication and SIG), Environmental Rights and Mental Health (Legal Department and Psychology), and Malocão Policy (Executive Coordination of the CIR and leaders).

The workshops, which will be held in May and June 2021, are just some of those that are in the planning of the youth nucleus for this year. The objective is to promote the approximation of the CIR departments through teaching, experience and learning with the students of the CIFCRSS "technical school", a symbol of indigenous resistance and differentiated education. "It is necessary to raise and strengthen our walls of resistance, and the Training Center is one of them", highlighted the deputy executive coordinator of the CIR, Enock Taurepang.

He says that in this new phase of the indigenous school, it is necessary to create a strengthening based on what we have, since 98% of the teams that make up the departments of the CIR are indigenous people trained in the areas of Environmental, Communication, Legal, Project Management, Administrative, Information and Geographic System (GIS), Psychology and others. "They are excellent professionals who have won in academic life and who are now able to pass on part of this knowledge to CIFICRSS students", he added.

The strategy is to start working together to strengthen all the actors who participate in the workshops. The main objective is the political strengthening of the regions and their production activities and other plans that exist. Thus, the agents of transformation are the students of the center and young leaders who are part of the youth nucleus, committed to the good living of their communities and regions.

In the view of the state coordinator of indigenous youth in the state of Roraima, Alcebias Sapará, who is a former student of the center, the workshops "will certainly have an effect within the students' regions, so it is a very interesting method and strategy, very innovative and serves to strengthen both the issue of social and political training of youth within the center, as well as new fields of vision about the territories, about the management of the potential of each region, and following each one in its focus".

Territorial manager Keliane Wapichana of the Department of Territorial and Environmental Management (DGTA) highlights the importance of contributing to the center. "We are returning to the base and contributing together with the students of the training center. We are going to multiply, and add knowledge, so I am grateful for the struggles of the leaders and for this contributing mainly to the technical school that is also part of the struggle of the leaders", highlighted Kelliane. All Ajuri participants follow the health protocol, with the use of masks, 70% alcohol gel and distancing.
