The Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR), an indigenous organization under the terms of articles 231 and 232 of the Federal Constitution, publicly expresses concern regarding the information received from the leaders of the Association of the Wai Wai Indigenous People about the plan to enter the region, in the first week of February 2021, from the governor of Roraima and the mayor of the municipality of Caroebe, as well as their secretaries and teams, in the Trombetas Mapuera indigenous land, in this period in which there is a new pandemic outbreak of Covid-19 in the state.

We reinforce that this is not the right time to visit indigenous communities, as we are experiencing a serious situation of the pandemic in Roraima and indigenous peoples are historically considered risk groups.

In view of this, the CIR, which represents 247 indigenous communities of the Macuxi, Wapichana, Taurepang, Patamona, Ingarikó, Wai Wai, Sapará and Yekuana peoples, repudiates any attempt to enter the Indigenous Lands, especially the Trombetas Mapuera Indigenous Land, with the exception of activities to provide essential services to prevent the expansion of the virus in the communities.
