Note of Repudiation of the statements of Federal Deputy Hiran Gonçalves (PP/RR) at the CCJC against the indigenous peoples of Roraima
INDIGENOUS COUNCIL OF RORAIMA – CIR, an organization of the original peoples Macuxi, Wapichana, Patamona, Ingarikó, Wai Wai, Sapará, Yekuana, Taurepang, Yanomomi, representing 255 communities, expresses total repugnance to the statements of Federal Deputy Hiran Manoel Gonçalves da Silva (PP/RR), in the Commission for the Constitution of Justice and Citizenship - CCJC, which analyzed PL 490/2007, on June 23, 2021, when he declared that, "indigenous peoples are obstacles to the development of the State of Roraima", and also cited the demarcation of the São Marcos, Yanomami and Raposa Serra do Sol indigenous lands as the main obstacles to the development of the state.
The Congressman's statements only reinforce prejudice and feed the hatred against indigenous peoples that has been practiced for centuries. But we are not surprised by these speeches coming from a deputy who follows the Bolsonarist ideology, which ignores the cultural diversity of Brazil and insists on a single development.
The defenders of PL 490/2007 use the paths of the legislative process of democracy to consolidate colonial practices, such as predatory exploitation, invasion of indigenous lands, illegal mining and mining and other violence. We hear absurd speeches from deputies against indigenous rights, to serve their own interests and those of their campaign supporters, as is the case of large mining companies and agribusiness sectors.
Finally, we advance that It is not outrageous speeches that will silence our indigenous voice. We are vigilant and attentive to the threats to our rights and indigenous territories.
The fight continues!
