Note of Repudiation

The INDIGENOUS COUNCIL OF RORAIMA – CIR, an organization representing 255 communities of the Macuxi, Wapichana, Taurepang, Sapará, Patamona, Ingaricó, Wai Wai, Yekuana and Yanomami peoples, publicly repudiates the presence of President Jair Bolsonaro in the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land, this Tuesday (26).

Without a mask and causing crowds, Bolsonaro and his team were in the early afternoon in a community in the Serras region, an appointment that was not on the official agenda. They also flew over the region of the Cotingo River where there is a glimpse of the construction of a hydroelectric plant, whose project, which has been dragging on for decades, goes against the interests and lives of the peoples of this region, as its construction could cause not only the destruction of the Tamanduá community, but also of all the biodiversity and the way of life of the indigenous peoples of this region.

In Brasilia, the general coordinator of the CIR, Edinho Macuxi, along with indigenous leaders from three regions of the Raposa Serra do Sol, Serras, Surumu and Raposa Indigenous Lands, spoke about the president's entry into the Indigenous Land. "We repudiate the president's presence. He is not welcome in our land," they said.

The Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land is home to 28,000 indigenous people who, after 35 years of struggles, deaths of leaders and conflicts, obtained the legal right over this territory, of 1.7 million hectares, thus being sovereign, and constitutional, the protection of this territory.
