The Indigenous Council of Roraima - CIR, representing 255 indigenous communities, with a population of more than 50 thousand indigenous people in the state of Roraima from the Macuxi, Wapichana, Taurepang, Wai Wai, Patamona, Sapará and Yekuana peoples, publicly REPUDIATES the violent attack that took place yesterday, 26, on the relatives of the Munduruku people, especially the relative Maria Leusa Kaba and her mother, in the Tapajós farm community (TI) Muduruku, Municipality of Jacareacanga, Pará.
The leader Maria Leusa was threatened, her house invaded and set on fire by illegal miners. It is not the first time that miners have tried to silence the indigenous voice, which has been denouncing the destruction of the forest and pollution of the rivers.
Illegal mining has invaded indigenous lands, and puts the lives of hundreds of peoples at risk.
In the face of the numerous attacks that have been happening against the indigenous population in Brazil, we demand that the Judiciary order the federal government to remove illegal miners from indigenous lands, and protect indigenous leader Maria Leusa, and also all leaders who denounce this criminal activity.
Out with mining! Out with mining!
