The INDIGENOUS COUNCIL OF RORAIMA – CIR, an indigenous organization representing 261 indigenous communities of the Macuxi, Wapichana, Taurepang, Ingariko, Patamona, Wai Wai, Sapará, Yanomami indigenous peoples, hereby expresses SOLIDARITY and FEELINGS to the families of Bruno Araújo Pereira and Dom Phillips, executed for defending and protecting the lives of the indigenous peoples of the Javari Valley.
Brazilian indigenist Bruno Pereira and British journalist Dom Phillips were partners and defenders of the indigenous communities of the Vale do Javari Indigenous Land and their indigenous organization, UNIVAJA, in the struggle for their lives, their territory, their good living. *Dom Phillips was with indigenous peoples in Roraima, 2019, at the III Assembly of the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land, and never stopped supporting the Indigenous Peoples of the Amazon. Bruno Pereira's trajectory with indigenous peoples is long and his presence will be greatly missed in our struggle.
* Bruno and Dom were VICTIMS OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S POLITICAL PROJECT of genocide of indigenous peoples in Brazil, of the dismantling of the competent public bodies in the defense and protection of our lives, of the encouragement of invasions and destruction of our territories, of the proposals and actions that daily attack and undermine our good living. We say enough!
CIR, lends its SOLIDARITY TO THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES OF THE JAVARI VALLEY, who with organization and struggle confront the political project of the Federal Government and resist day by day those who criminally attack their lives, their social organization, their territories. The actions and organization of the indigenous peoples of the Javari Valley are FUNDAMENTAL to ensure resistance to the political project of the Federal Government. The work of the EVU (Surveillance Team) of the Union of Indigenous Peoples of the Javari Valley (UNIVAJA) is essential and cannot stop. Where the State acts criminally, the actions of protection, surveillance and territorial monitoring are the guarantee of our life. We express our deep gratitude to all the indigenous people and partners who spared no effort in the searches and investigations of the crime and who risk their lives to do so. We are together in this fight!
In the face of such inestimable pain, we express our regret and DEMAND SERIOUS, AGILE and CONCLUSIVE INVESTIGATIONS into the criminal organizations that operate in the indigenous territory of the peoples of the Javari Valley and that motivated the execution of Bruno and Dom. We DEMAND from all competent bodies URGENT AND IMMEDIATE MEASURES to protect the lives of the indigenous peoples of the Javari Valley. Finally, we count on the support of the entire society to confront the genocidal political project of the Federal Government.
NOT A DROP OF INDIGENOUS BLOOD MORE.
JUSTICE FOR BRUNO AND DOM! JUSTICE FOR THE PEOPLES OF THE JAVARI VALLEY!
Indigenous Council of Roraima, June 17, 2022.
