NOTE OF CLARIFICATION

The Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR), an organization that has defended the rights of peoples for 50 years, comes to speak out in the face of the false information that is circulating in relation to the Surveillance and Monitoring Post April 26, 1977, located in the São Mateus Indigenous community, located in the Serras region, municipality of Uiramutã.

The CIR, which represents 255 communities,DOES NOT CREATE BARRIERSas has been reported by people who are unaware of the social organization of indigenous peoples. The Territorial Monitoring Posts are initiatives of the communities themselves within that want to curb the illegal trade of alcoholic beverages, invasions by miners, entry of unauthorized people, among other types of invasions, and which are being directly impacted due to the increase in violence. In this pandemic period, the barriers were also essential for the protection of indigenous communities against Covid-19, given the omission of the Public Power recognized by the STF through ADPF 709 and which determined that the Federal Government adopt urgent measures to protect communities.

In the period of one year that the Surveillance Post was installed, the leaders seized hundreds of illegal mining products, as well as drugs and stolen vehicles. The leaders also learned vehicles from the government, SESAI and MAPA, transporting alcoholic beverages to indigenous communities, in addition to other crimes recorded in documents by the leaders and delivered to the authorities.

In the last two years, the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land has been invaded by 4,000 miners who have settled in the vicinity of the Raposa II, Pedra Preta, Piolho, Campo Formoso, Uiramutã and Mutum communities, causing pollution of the main rivers (Maú, Kinó, Cotingo and Surumu) that supply the indigenous communities. In view of this, the CIR repudiates any attempt at incrimination and will seek the competent bodies to adopt all legal and appropriate measures to stop the hate speech propagated against indigenous communities and to ensure the protection of indigenous lands, as recognized by the Constitution.
