Note of Support

The INDIGENOUS COUNCIL OF RORAIMA – CIR, an organization representing 255 communities of the Macuxi, Wapichana, Taurepang, Sapará, Patamona, Ingaricó, Wai Wai, Yekuana and Yanomami peoples, hereby publicly declares support and solidarity with the Yanomami People for the loss of two children from the Makuxi Yano Community, on the afternoon of October 12 in the Yanomami Indigenous Land.

In a statement, the Hutukara Yanomami Association states that the children, one aged 5 and the other 7, were swallowed by rafts of miners while they were playing by the river. We also reinforce the association's request for the immediate removal of the miners from the vicinity of the communities, as the death of children should not be something recurrent, given that two other children have already been killed, these in Palimiú also in the Yanomami Indigenous Land, resulting from the conflict generated by the invaders who bring the land and now the lives of children.

It is notorious that the organs, instead of expressing repudiation, remain silent, while children are brutally torn from their families.

Once again the CIR provides support and solidarity to the Yanomami People, for this irreparable and painful loss, which should not be treated lightly, we demand answers, as well as justice.
