NOTE OF SUPPORT FOR THE WAIMIRI ATROARI PEOPLE

THE INDIGENOUS COUNCIL OF RORAIMA – CIR, an organization representing 255 communities of the Macuxi, Wapichana, Taurepang, Sapará, Patamona, Ingaricó, Wai Wai, Yekuana and Yanomami peoples, hereby publicly declares full support for the NOTE OF REPUDIATION OF THE WAIMIRI ATROARI COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION – ACWA in the face of the news of the issuance of the Installation License for the Manaus – Boa Vista Power Transmission Line (Tucuruí Line), as announced by the President during a visit to the Capital of Roraima on 09/29/2021.

According to the note, "the Waimiri Atroari Leaders, despite never having wanted this transmission line to pass through their land, reached a consensus on what they understand to be the minimum acceptable for the Waimiri Atroari People to SUPPORT the construction and permanence of this enterprise for their Land".

And yet, "THERE WAS NEITHER THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT NOR THE ENTREPRENEUR ANY FORMAL OR INFORMAL RESPONSE TO THE WAIMIRI ATROARI COMMUNITY ABOUT THE ACCEPTANCE OR NOT OF THE COMPENSATION PROPOSAL THAT WAS PRESENTED".

And that they were surprised by the information that the President of FUNAI informed that the consultation was duly carried out with the Waimiri Atroari people and on 09/28/2021, IBAMA issued the Transmission License of the "Tucuri Line".

In view of this, the CIR joins the Waimiri Atroari people and requests that the Federal Government respect the right to consultation guaranteed in ILO Convention 169 and article 231 of the CF/88, as well as due process.

Finally, it requests the immediate intervention of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (7th Office, of the Attorney General's Office in Roraima-PR) to investigate the illegalities.
