"We are not an obstacle to the development of the country," said the indigenous leader in a meeting with the Pope.

The objective is to participate and bring experiences of struggle and resistance for the defense of cultural and territorial rights, and also to repudiate the government's speech on the issue of large bills that put the lives of all peoples at risk, such as mining, hydroelectric dams, time frame, revision of the Raposa Serra do Sol and land lease.

"We do not agree when the government says that indigenous peoples are obstacles to the development of the country, we want to live happily in harmony with mother nature, without pollution and without destruction, we do not want our mother earth as a business object, the concern with the Amazon is not only of indigenous peoples is of all humanity, we want sustainable development, that is why we say no land leasing", highlighted the professor.

The participation of indigenous peoples and the missionaries of the Indigenous Missionary Council (CIMI) seeks, "on the one hand, to sensitize society and the whole church about the reality of indigenous peoples, and on the other hand, to contribute to the synodal work on issues that we consider fundamental in the search for new paths for the church and for an integral ecology in which peoples are subjects and protagonists," explains Luis Ventura, a missionary at CIMI.
