Indigenous leaders are falsely accused of attempted robbery in Uiramutã

The Legal Counsel of the Indigenous Council of Roraima that follows the case soon after receiving information from the indigenous leaders went to the headquarters of the Civil Police Station of Pacaraima, the information provided by PM RR does not match the truth of the facts and aims to try to criminalize indigenous leaders in the region of the Serras, Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land, where they carry out the work of Indigenous Territorial Surveillance and Monitoring in the face of the increase in the invasion of miners and the entry of people with inappropriate content (alcohol, drugs and stolen products) within the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land.

According to the document provided by the Indigenous Leaders who carry out the Surveillance and Territorial Monitoring work at the Geraldo Makuxi Surveillance Post, they stopped an individual from the Maracanã I Community. The individual, very altered and shown to have drunk alcoholic beverages, did not respect the stop order of the Community leaders and began to utter profane words, threatening to return and burn the houses of the indigenous people.

Faced with this, the leaders revolted and insisted that the individual hand over the bottles and the alcoholic beverage he was carrying.

But he did not respect the decision and fled and was followed by the Leaders. Where further ahead he fell off the motorcycle and injured himself.

According to the leaders of the Lilac Community, where the Territorial Surveillance and Monitoring Post is located, the individual went to Uiramutã and later returned with the Military Police.

According to the Police, the individual reported having suffered attempted murder.

The indigenous leaders tried to counter and explain what happened, but they were not heard by the police, they were handcuffed and taken to the Pacaraima police station.

Upon receiving information from indigenous leaders, the General Coordination of the CIR and the legal counsel traveled at night around 11 pm to Pacaraima.

When they got there, they found that the indigenous leaders were detained. In view of this, more information was requested from the Chief of Police about the reason for the arrest.

The Chief explained that he attended the case where a victim claimed to have suffered attempted homicide, soon after listening to the leaders, verified that the information was not true, only drew up a Detailed Term of Occurrence in disfavor of the leaders and released them.

These are the FACTS about the situation that occurred on February 27 (Sunday) in the Lilac Community, Serras region, TI RSS, municipality of Uiramutã, the article published by the local newspaper reiterates the sensationalism when it comes to issues conveyed to indigenous people and/or Indigenous Lands.
