Tuxauas, Coordinators and vice-tuxauas of the Serras region met this afternoon (17), with the Federal Prosecutor of the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), Alisson Marugal, representatives of Funai/RR and the Federal Police, to demand territorial protection, in view of the actions developed at the Eren Mutan Ken inspection and monitoring base, T.I Raposa Serra do Sol, municipality of Uiramutã.The inspection carried out by the communities, which aims to try to bar the entry of alcoholic beverages into indigenous communities, illicit drugs and mining materials, has been the target of criticism and discussions, by merchants and some residents of the municipality of Uiramutã. The monitoring base was activated on March 22 of this year. On the occasion, the leaders spoke about the situation faced in recent times. Regional coordinator of the Serra region, Amarildo Macuxi, reported that even with the demarcation of the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land, the indigenous peoples of the region have faced major problems and, due to the lack of support from the federal government, decided to create the monitoring bases. "We have already received a lot of criticism from non-indigenous people in the municipality about our work, we know that we do not have police power. But we act to defend our territory. We have already managed to prevent the entry of drugs, alcoholic beverages, mining materials and so many other illicit activities", said the coordinator.
Also, according to the coordinator, the alleged accusations that the leaders would be mistreating people, preventing rights to come and go and preventing the entry of goods, is not true. During the hearing, the leaders shared the concern for the safety of the communities, and asked the representatives of the agencies for territorial protection action, and said if there is no position from the inspection agencies they will continue to do the monitoring work. General Tuxaua of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR), Edinho Batista, questioned how this solution is discussed, since this passage is in the urban perimeter. "It is not only putting the right of those who want to sell, but also of those who want to live, it is dangerous to live in the vicinity of the place, the indigenous communities are being violated. The leaders have been monitoring, a role of territorial security that is for the state to do," said the tuxaua. The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, Funai/RR and the Federal Police, were invited by the leaders to go to the monitoring base, the invitation will also be made to the councilors and mayor of the municipality of Uiramutã, to try to reach consensus between the parties. Dr. Alisson Marugal (MPF) expressed concern about the facts. "To this day we have an impasse, when it comes to the monitoring base of indigenous communities, it is a complicated case, in the legal term it is not easy, but we will build an agenda to dialogue with the municipality, indigenous communities, Federal Police, councilors, merchants", pointed out the prosecutor. The visit of the MPF, FUNAI, PF and other inspection bodies to the Eren Mutan Ken monitoring base, is scheduled to take place in the coming days.
