On October 26, the coordinator of traditional medicine Edilasomara Sampaio delivered to the general coordinator of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) Enock Taurepang, the notebook of the midwives of the Serras region, Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land.

The notebook that contains recipes for medicinal plants is a long-term project in the region. United, the leaders, midwives, healers, young people, Indigenous Health Agent (AIS) and Indigenous Sanitation Agent (AISAN) recorded the teachings of traditional knowledge. In four years, eight meetings took place, two per year.

According to Edilasomara, the idea came about through the great leader Dionito Macuxi, who while still alive was concerned with maintaining traditional knowledge, rescuing ancient knowledge and passing on to future generations the teachings of the ancestors of the culture of indigenous peoples.

"It was when Dionito was created, he thought of improving and rescuing the knowledge of our ancestors to be able to teach young people, because whether we like it or not, we have contact with another culture. This work was passed on to the CIR in memory of Dionito", explained Edilasomara.

At this first moment, fifty copies were printed. Also according to the coordinator, the notebooks will be in health centers and schools in the region. However, she said, "if the other regions are interested, we will create other books or make copies of these, to strengthen this exchange of knowledge".

The initiative was supported by the CIR through the general secretary of the women's movement, CONDISI and the Consolata Missionaries.
