The letter that was filed with the CIR reads:
"We, the indigenous communities of Tabatinga, Sol Nascente, Deus Nos Ama and Camararém gathered on November 16, 2022 at the Tabatinga surveillance post to reflect on a year in which indigenous leaders were shot by the military police of the state of Roraima, and to this day we have not forgotten and have no answers.”
The leaders also report in a document that the aftermath of the violence left women, children and young people frightened and the elderly unable to work in the fields and in the retreats in cattle raising. A leader shot in the chest suffers the aftermath of the shot.
(...) And to this day we do not have an explanation as to why and what is the reason for this violent attack, we want to punish these people because today those affected are suffering without being able to work, in search of their livelihoods and their families and it is a day that was marked in all of us and we wait for a response from the competent authorities.
Since the struggle for the demarcation of Raposa Serra do Sol, there have been several cases of violence, invasion of the community, death of leaders, destruction of retreats, hundreds of threats to leaders. In 2003, Aldo Mota was murdered, and his mastermind was acquitted in the Jury Court. 2004, there was the criminal destruction of the Brilho do Sol, Homologação and Jawarizinho Communities. 2005, the arson of the Training Center. 2008, the violent attack known as the Case of the Ten Brothers, shot. In all these reported cases, there has been no punishment for those responsible or compensation to the communities and victims to date.
