With the smoking of the maruwai, a ritual of protection and strengthening, conducted by shaman Vanda Macuxi, the II Expanded Meeting of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) began yesterday (5). The event takes place in the Arapuá indigenous community, Alto Cauamé region, which also hosted the Extraordinary Assembly.
At the opening, Tuxaua Gustavo Emíliano, welcomed the participants, and congratulated the leaders for their union and made reference to the stick beam symbol of resistance of the indigenous peoples of Roraima.
"A tuxaua alone does not achieve anything, but together we are strong, as well as our bundle of sticks that is difficult to break when you have several wands," said the tuxaua.
The secretary of the Indigenous Women's Movement of Roraima, Kelliane Wapichana, celebrating another moment of struggle and resistance, highlighted the moment of struggle for demarcation. A struggle of more than 5 years.
"We live in a historic moment. We thank the former tuxaua of the Arapuá community Reginaldo who is no longer with us, but who fought for this moment to come, and with all this struggle and God willing, we will have victory with this homologated territory", said Kelliane.
General Coordinator of the CIR Edinho Batista, reinforced the importance of another historic moment of the indigenous moment of Roraima.
The leaders expressed concern about the advance of illegal mining, non-indigenous occupants, in addition to the issue between Venezuela and Guyana. They fear a possible border conflict and the migration of indigenous people living in these countries, mainly from Guyana
On this first day, the organization's accountability presented by the Administrative and Financial department, for the period from January to October 2023, and the report of the Fiscal Council were approved.
In the evening, the Communication department presented the video of the main actions of the departments carried out in 2023, in addition to the actions of the sector itself.
