The appointment of Marizete de Souza to the regional coordination of the National Indigenous Peoples Foundation (FUNAI) in Roraima was published this Wednesday (01) in the Official Gazette of the Union, signed by the Minister of State for Indigenous Peoples, Sônia Guajajara. The appointment fulfills the request of the Indigenous Movement of Roraima which, in December 2022, officially notified the Presidency of the Republic indicating the name of Marizete.
This is the first time an indigenous woman has assumed the regional coordination of Funai in Roraima, an agency responsible for policies protecting and promoting the rights of indigenous peoples.
Marizete de Souza Macuxi was born in the indigenous community of Maturuca, Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Territory. She was a member of the General Coordination of CIR, serving as General Secretary of the Indigenous Women's Movement from 2009 to 2010. She coordinated the Training Center and was the regional coordinator for women in the Serras region. She also participated in the parliamentary team of Federal Deputy Joenia Wapichana, from 2019 to 2022, as a parliamentary advisor.
The new coordinator holds a bachelor's degree in Indigenous Territorial Management from the Federal University of Roraima (UFRR) and is a technician in agriculture, having graduated from the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Training and Culture Center (CIFCRSS).
On behalf of the indigenous peoples and the 261 communities, we express our support and congratulate the warrior Marizete.
