With an emphasis on the autonomy of indigenous peoples, the Communication Department of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) in partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), held from February 14 to 16, in the Ta'rau Parú community, the II Training Meeting with a network of young communicators from the São Marcos Indigenous Land.
The focus was on strengthening indigenous communication, through the use of tools for the creation of guidelines on the consumption and proper use of water, the impact of COVID-19 and waste from the communities of the Indigenous Land. 28 young people from the Taurepang and Macuxi peoples of the indigenous communities participated: Novo Paraíso, Bananal, Sorocaima 1, Sacaumutá and Ta'rau Parú.
The podcast workshop was taught by indigenous communicator Jacir Souza, from the Macuxi people. And about video recording and editing, it was done by the Popular communicator, Ana Lúcia Montel.
For young people to participate in the meeting, cell phones were made available with video recording and editing applications in the production of videos and podcasts, with themes related to water and COVID-19.

"The main objective is to pass on a little about the importance of water and also bring a little about the issue of Covid-19, so that they can create key messages and pass it on to their communities. In addition to working on community activities and focusing a lot on prevention, that is, the prevention of Covid-19. Also the prevention of diseases that may come through water", explained José Briceño, water and sanitation hygiene consultant at UNICEF Brazil.
Graciela Taurepang was one of the participants, she is from the Sorocaima I community. She said that the meeting served to awaken her knowledge in communication and will multiply knowledge in her community. "I enjoyed participating. Today we have a tool that we can use in our favor through video and podcast production, among others. And the information about water and prevention against Covid-19 was very important", she highlighted.

The Tuxaua of the Ta'rau Parú community, Aldino Alves, of the Taurepang people, highlighted the importance of training indigenous communicators in the region. Because they will be the multipliers of information in community management and hopes for a good job.
"Indigenous communicators are the main tools that will be taking information into their community. It is what the agent expects from each one who participated in the second meeting. That they can do a good job within the community. And wherever they are, also multiply the knowledge they acquired for other young people who did not participate. Today the São Marcos region took a leap with these young people, we leaders who had already been thinking about it and today it has materialized within the community. So I just have to thank the CIR and UNICEF, who brought the second meeting to be held in the Ta'rau Parú community.
