State Meeting of Traditional Medicine

Traditional Medicine has been used for centuries by Indigenous leaders, however efforts to multiply it have been expanded due to the inefficiency of the state in combating the pandemic or creating an effective combat program against covid-19 within communities and regions. With this in mind, the Indigenous Council of Roraima - CIR, with the support of the Ford Foundation, Diocese of Roraima and United Hands, held the First State Meeting of Traditional Medicine in the Truaru da Cabeceira community, Murupu Region, Boa Vista - RR, which brought together more than 80 leaders of the Macuxi, Wapichana, Taurepang peoples and representatives of the Waraou people of Venezuela who are sheltered in the Jardim Floresta shelter in Boa Vista.
The general secretary of the Indigenous women's movement, Maria Betânia, and the General Coordinator of the CIR, Edinho Batista, participated on behalf of the CIR.
The meeting lasted three days, from February 9th to 11th. The Appreciation of Indigenous Medicine has been a recurring theme among the leaders and at their request, the Indigenous Council of Roraima with the support of partners carries out more and more actions. Below is part of the records of the meeting that brought together Midwives, Tuxauas, Prayers, Masters of traditional medicine, as well as young people who increasingly seek to perpetuate the indigenous culture and tradition.
