The CIR currently has an Indigenous Youth Department created and approved by the leaders at the 53rd General Assembly of the Indigenous Peoples of Roraima on March 14, 2024. In 2011, the first State Meeting of the Indigenous Youth of Roraima took place in the healing house (Boa Vista), which brought together young people from all regions, and since then there have been state meetings in order to bring together young leaders to talk about their realities and set goals for overcoming.
In this same period, the regional coordinators of indigenous youth in Roraima were created. In 2015, in an expanded deliberative meeting of the CIR in the Lindalva Macuxi auditorium, the young leaders Enock Taurepang, Cirilo Macuxi and Romário Wapichana fought for the creation of the Youth Nucleus within the Indigenous Council of Roraima.
"I was young, but it was a very strong leadership, a traditional leadership. The youth needed a space to talk about the problems that were happening", Enock Taurepang's report about the creation of the youth nucleus.
After this episode, he points out – "the youth began to act more in the organization, the young people always went to visit the regions, we were strengthening other young people and reaching more young people to work in the indigenous movement. The Youth Center was created to "save lives".
In 2018, the first state coordinator of indigenous youth in Roraima, Alcebias Sapará, was elected. Only then did the nucleus have its existence within the Indigenous Council of Roraima, having its effectiveness in the statute of the CIR organization in 2019, in a general assembly. Alcebias Sapará coordinated for 4 years (2020 – 2022) in office. In 2022, a coordinator was elected in the VII State Assembly of Indigenous Youth of Roraima, Raquel Wapichana and Messias Macuxi.
On July 13, 2023, in a meeting with young leaders gathered in the Lindalva Macuxi auditorium (CIR headquarters), there was a decision to propose the creation of the Department of Indigenous Youth of Roraima where it would be taken for approval in the expanded deliberative of the CIR in December 2023.
Its political organizational chart is composed of the coordination of the youth department, regional and local youth coordinations.
The work has been to work on strengthening existing sustainability projects in the regions, and traditional seeds at the state level, political strengthening, training and political advocacy at the state, national and international levels.
The youth has strengthened the struggle of indigenous leaders in the current situation of the Brazilian state against the setbacks of indigenous rights. The Youth Department is politically strengthened, its performance has been through grassroots demands, participation in assemblies and state and regional meetings, in which strategic planning is carried out that seeks to strengthen the communities.
