The Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) has started a campaign to collect donations for indigenous communities as a form of aid during the pandemic of the new coronavirus. As of Saturday morning (28), 12 people had already been diagnosed with Covid-19 in Roraima, and with each passing day fears grow that the virus will reach indigenous communities, which could decimate native populations, as scholars have been warning.
Because of this, the CIR launched the fundraising campaign that will be destined to the communities that most need assistance, such as those that are in areas of difficult access.
All the money raised will be used for purchases of hygienic materials and food.
Since the beginning of this week, communities have been self-isolating to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, complying with the preventive standards determined by the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding quarantine.
