Indigenous Communities make cattle "Ferra"

The Ferra or Marking of the animals, is part of the internal planning of the regions, among the indigenous lands that started this activity are communities of the Indigenous Lands Raposa Serra do Sol, the Machado community that is located in the Surumu Region, and the Novo Destino community, of the Indigenous Land of São Marcos.
Cattle production has been discussed since the demarcation of lands as a form of self-sustainability and internal production, currently communities are already maintaining themselves with the sale and consumption of cattle from indigenous lands.

The "ferra", as it is called by the leaders, also gives the notion of the amount of cattle raising within the communities and indigenous lands.
One of the projects behind cattle raising within the T.Is came through incentives such as the one made by the Diocese of Roraima with the support of leaders since 1980, the Project "M Cruz - A Cow for an Indian." Where indigenous communities were responsible for a certain amount of cattle received, and soon after a period passed on the results of part of the breeding to other communities, thus increasing the production and integration of cattle in the largest number of indigenous communities possible, a great example of this is Serras, one of the four regions of the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land, which concentrated 16 thousand head of cattle until 2020.
According to local leaders, the iron was started in January this year and should continue until April, at its end a general count of animals in indigenous lands will be made;
