The Anta II community, in the Tabaio region, municipality of Alto Alegre, received donations last week from the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) to strengthen the production of traditional medicine. The initiative, supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy, aims to give autonomy to communities in the face of the pandemic of the new coronavirus.
During the action, a refrigerator, stove, blender and kitchen utensils were delivered. The community has been working with traditional medicine to help not only its residents, but also neighboring communities and populations.
According to the coordinator of regional traditional medicine, Rosângela Raposo, in the Anta I and II communities, both in the Tabaio region, ointments, syrups and teas are made using medicinal plants. "We have already distributed traditional medicine to other communities and other regions, and also to the Indigenous Health House (CASAI), and with this support they are giving us, we will continue in this fight."
Sandriele Barbosa, from the Anta II community, said that traditional medicine is being a great ally in the fight against the coronavirus. "Our relatives are healing."
The coordinator of the CIR, Enock Taurepang, and the general secretary of the indigenous women's movement of Roraima, Maria Betânia Macuxi, participated in the delivery. They congratulated the leaders for the initiative of the communities.
"Traditional medicine is making a difference and being of great importance in the recovery of people with COVID-19. Therefore, we thank and congratulate our leaders for all the initiatives that are being carried out for the good living of our people", highlighted Maria Betânia.
