Meeting the demands of the communities in the northern regions of the state, the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) through the emergency campaign, the general secretary of the women's movement, Maria Betânia, delivered on October 7, materials in support of the production of traditional medicine to the communities of Barro, in the Surumú and Tamanduá regions, in the Serras region.
According to Betânia, the support that the CIR is donating to the regions, through the emergency campaign, is to meet the demands coming from the communities. "The Kits with the materials are to strengthen and value more and more our culture, our values and traditional medicine, which is extremely important", she concluded.
The traditional medicine of indigenous peoples has intensified and contributed to the fight against it since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The disease that arrived took the lives of the peoples. With an emergency, the communities resorted to syrups, ointments, among others. In the Barro community, in the Surumú region, women, men and young people came together to produce the medicines.
Thinking about the good of each one, the nursing technician, Fátima Costa da Silva of the Macuxi ethnic group, said that they will continue to be firm in the manufacture of medicines.
"We want to prevent ourselves and not carry this disease forward, because it has already taken a lot of our relatives. Here in my community Barro, it was very serious, today we don't want it anymore, let's prevent it", he highlighted.
Edilasomara Sampaio is an Indigenous Health Agent (AIS), midwife and coordinator of traditional medicine in the Serras region. She said that when the Covid-19 pandemic was arriving in Brazil, she and her husband, indigenous leader Dionito Macuxi, who died in the middle of the pandemic, carried out prevention work, in the communities bringing alcohol, syrup and pepper, all blessed by the shaman. She explained that the region is already working on the construction of the traditional medicine kitchen in the Tamanduá community.
"Traditional medicine is effective in our community, in our family, with this support from the CIR, it will strengthen us even more. Therefore, we will continue the treatment of this pandemic and other diseases".
This initiative is supported by CIR and Rainforest.
