It is with great concern that the Indigenous Council of Roraima informs the communities that the first POSITIVE case of COVID-19 was confirmed on April 30 in the DSEI-Leste. The patient is a 2-year-old child, belonging to the Novo Paraíso community, Serra da Lua region. According to the information passed on today, May 1, 2020 by the DSEI/East of Roraima, she has a chronic disease, was treated in the village of São Francisco, in the municipality of Bonfim, being referred to the Santo Antônio Hospital and then removed to CASAI-LESTE in the municipality of Boa Vista, where the test for the new Coronavirus was collected and thus testing positive. Through this, we express repudiation of this neglect, being once again an oversight and negligence of indigenous health and other competent bodies in serving our relatives, being exposed to numerous factors that can lead patients coming from the communities to the rapid contagion of the virus, we emphasize that this is already the second case of infected indigenous people in Roraima, in the first unfortunately led to the death of our Yanomami relative. The communities have already protected their territories without any help from the state. Our organization reaffirms its commitment to continue fighting in defense of the health of indigenous peoples and will file a lawsuit so that those responsible for health care and protection of the territories comply with their institutional duty, which to date has not presented the emergency plan.
To the relatives, the moment is one of vigilance and care. We are fighting against an invisible enemy, so stay at home, do not leave the communities, protect yourselves.
