CIR RECOGNIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF THE DECISION OF THE FEDERAL COURT THAT CONVICTED RICE GROWER PAULO CESAR QUARTIEIRO, FORMER VICE-GOVERNOR AND OTHERS

The INDIGENOUS COUNCIL OF RORAIMA – CIR, an organization representing 255 communities of the Macuxi, Wapichana, Taurepang, Sapará, Patamona, Ingaricó, Wai Wai, Yekuana and Yanomami peoples, hereby publicly recognizes the decision that condemned the former vice-governor of Roraima Paulo Cesar Quartieiro and the associations SODIUR, ALIDECIR and ARIKON, jointly and severally, to the payment of collective moral damages in favor of the Indigenous Peoples of the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land.
It is a historic decision, even after more than 16 years, it recognized the serious violations committed in 2004 by groups and people who felt they had the right to attack the indigenous people with firearms, set fire to and destroy their homes in the Jawarizinho, Homologação and Brilho do Sol communities, and the Insikiran and Tai-Tai retreats, in Raposa Serra do Sol.
The Brazilian justice system cannot turn a blind eye to the injustices that have been committed against the native peoples who to this day fight for the realization of their constitutional rights. The sentence is attached:Type A Judgment - Process
