CIR receives award for dedication, Resistance and Socio-environmental defender of Brazil

The Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR), together with the regional coordinators, received this Friday afternoon (10) from Deputy Joenia Wapichana the award that honors the organization for its dedication and Resistance as a Socio-Environmental Defender of Brazil, in allusion to June 5, celebrated as Environment Day, granted by the Chamber of Deputies.

For coordinator Enock Taurepang, it is an honor for the organization to receive this recognition in defense of the environment and that it also honored several other indigenous organizations in the country.

"For the CIR it is an honor to receive an award like this, a recognition of all the work we have been doing for more than 50 years. The award crowns our performance in defense of our territory, in defense of the environment. Recognizing the organization in fact plays its role as an institution is gratifying for us. This makes us motivated to continue this fight despite all the attacks that indigenous and constitutional rights are suffering from the current government. But the struggle is daily, and we as an organization, as a community, we have a duty to continue fighting and believing in our collective goals and dreams," said Enock, deputy coordinator of the CIR.

On the occasion, Deputy Joenia Wapichana, who passed the plaque to the leaders, reinforced the importance of the CIR's work in defense of the rights of indigenous peoples. "I want to reinforce the importance of the socio-environmental action that this organization, the Indigenous Council of Roraima, has done in defense of the rights of indigenous peoples and in the protection of indigenous lands through activities carried out with partnerships in defense of the rights and interests of indigenous peoples in the State of Roraima", she emphasized.
