With a history of action on sustainable development, climate change and the environment, and extensive experience in global dialogues, environmental manager and coordinator of the Environmental and Territorial Department of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR), Sineia Bezerra do Vale, is participating this Tuesday, the 11th, in the panel “Food Sovereignty and Sustainability in the Amazon”, promoted by Glocal Experience. Also present representing the CIR were the Secretary of the Indigenous Women's Movement, Keliane Wapichana, and the coordinator of Indigenous Youth, Raquel Viana. The event also included the participation of Dario Kopenawa, a leader of the Yanomami people.
The event, held at Sesc Boa Vista, will continue until 5:30 PM.
With the participation of 30 local leaders, the event aims to generate diagnoses and actions, for the construction of steps that will effectively achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Among the leaders, Davi Kopenawa is also participating in the event.
During the panel, Sineia highlighted:
"We need public policies that can boost the work that CIR does. When we have the plans, PGTAs, already made by the indigenous communities, this shows us how to work with sustainability, income generation and the preservation of traditional seeds. Our plantations do not have pesticides. But they are affected by their use, mainly in areas close to the communities, especially areas with soy that make this use."
Sineia also cited the participation of the Indigenous Council of Roraima in the COPs, the Climate Summit, and also mentioned the creation and promotion of indigenous brigades and the traditional seed bank.
Following the panel discussion, Sineia will participate in the "Dialogue and Solutions Workshop for Roraima," where she will be able to contribute to the thematic groups.
About Glocal:
GLOCAL was created with the aim of being a social innovation laboratory to reimagine and reintegrate territories towards 2030. The first chapter of this story began in June 2022 in Rio de Janeiro, the stage for some of the largest meetings on the subject (Eco 92 and Rio+20). The 9-day event, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, was attended by 38,000 people, featured 250 hours of content from national and international speakers, workshops, shows, and various artistic expressions. It also received extensive media coverage in major media outlets.
In 2023, in addition to Rio de Janeiro, GLOCAL will expand its reach by establishing itself in one of the world's greatest symbols of the socio-environmental agenda: the Amazon.
