The Indigenous Council of Roraima – CIR, an organization that completes 50 years, congratulates Federal Deputy Joenia Wapichana (REDE), for her thousand days of collective mandate. Today she is always a leader of national and international reference, in her first moment being an indication of the indigenous leaders of Roraima, and currently defending the rights of indigenous peoples throughout Brazil. The thousand days of her mandate were of great resistance, we know and see daily the attacks that the only indigenous representative suffers.
But Joenia does not remain silent in the face of negative comments, and stands firm. Her mandate representing the peoples of Roraima, Wapichana, Macuxi, Sapará, Wai-wai, Ingaricó, Patamona, Yanomami, Taurepang, Ye'kuana, elevates her performance, and thus continues in defense of all indigenous people in Brazil.
May her mandate extend for more years and days, may her strength as an indigenous woman overcome the lack of reason of society that tries to erase her history, and may all her comings and goings to the indigenous communities of Roraima be celebratory.
