The Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) delivered last Thursday (29) equipment for the assembly of a new flour house in the Ananás community, Ananás Indigenous Land, Amajari region. The items (cassava grating motor, peccary ball and two ovens) were delivered to the leaders of the community where five families of the Macuxi and Wapichana ethnic groups live.
According to Enock Taurepang, coordinator of the CIR, the donation was requested by the community itself, which sought the Indigenous Council of Roraima requesting support to strengthen family production. "The community already has a garden and produces, but until then there was no flour house that could handle this production. So they made this demand to us and we were able to support it," explained Enock Taurepang.
"This was a very old desire of the community, which will now be able to increase the production of cassava flour," said tuxaua Jercino Barros Wanderley. The Ananás Indigenous Land has 1,700 hectares.
A cell phone, food baskets and hygiene kits collected by the CIR's emergency campaign, which helps communities face the Covid-19 pandemic, were also donated to the Ananás community. Residents also received informative material about the new coronavirus.
Marlene Jacinta da Silva, coordinator of the women of the Ananás community, said that with the new flour house, families in the community will have more food security. "We are very happy to receive this help," Marelen acknowledged.
The action was supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy (flour house), Magazine Luíza (food baskets and hygiene kits) and the International Institute of Education of Brazil (IEB/PACT) (cell phone).
