To open the celebrations of the anniversary of the first Assembly of Tuxauas (leaders) that gave rise, in 1971, to the movement of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR), the organization launches the animation "CIR 50 years". With 3 minutes of duration, the video is narrated by the young communicator Niciele Raposo, from the Macuxi people.
The animation recalls the context of invasion that the communities faced in the 1970s and highlights important dates for the indigenous movement in Roraima, such as the "Go or Racha" decision, which took place on April 26, 1977, and the achievements achieved in the last five decades. One of them was the 30-year struggle for the demarcation of the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land, where today more than 26 thousand indigenous people of the Macuxi, Wapichana, Ingarikó, Taurepang and Patamona peoples live.
For the coordinator of the CIR, Edinho Batista, from the Macuxi people, this is a moment to honor and reflect on the struggles and achievements of the indigenous movement. "To talk about the 50 years of the CIR is to talk about a great responsibility, a great mission that the indigenous leaders of Roraima had to face, to fight with resistance and courage in defense of the rights of their people," said Edinho.
The production of the video was supported by the Bem Viver Project (CIR/IEB/NCI) and Coletivo 105. The animation is available on the CIR channel on Youtube. Clickhereto watch. Ehere, for English subtitles.
