As one of the final approvals of the II Extended Meeting of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR), council members approved the Letter with demands, repudiation and greetings to the leaders, representatives of the indigenous peoples of Roraima at the Climate Change Conference (COP-28). The Expanded Meeting with the theme "Taking back our territories to guarantee life on the planet", took place from December 5 to 7, in the Arapuá indigenous community, Alto Cauamé region.The final letter has nineteen proposals, with the main point being support for the Arapuá community and its leaders, who have been fighting tirelessly for the demarcation of ancestral territory for 50 years. The request was directed to the Ministry of Justice, Ministries of Indigenous Peoples and Ministry of Human Rights, requesting protection of the physical integrity of the leaders of the Alto Cauamé region.
Support for the indigenous leaders who represented the indigenous peoples of Roraima at the Climate Change Conference in Dubai, Sinéia do Vale, Raquel Wapichana, Fátima Makuxi, and Charlane Almeida, who echoed the voices and demands of the indigenous peoples of Roraima and Brazil to the world. May they be heard and respected, and climate injustice will be repaired, where indigenous peoples are part of the negotiations and agreements made in an attempt to save the world. The struggle and resistance for the guarantee of original rights was part of the debates. One of the deliberations of the letter in which it demands that the Brazilian Parliament maintain the presidential vetoes on law No. 14,701/2023, and reaffirm the rights guaranteed in the constitution so as not to promote genocide against indigenous peoples once again. As an act of resistance, at the end the leaders gathered the stick beam symbol of the struggle of indigenous peoples, used to strengthen the tuxaua Gustavo Emiliano and the Arapuá community, which is going through the process of retaking the territory, with demarcation studies expected to start by April 2024.
