Our VOICE and RESISTANCE in the National Congress is called JOENIA WAPICHANA, nominated by the Indigenous Movement at the General Assembly of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) in 2018 and elected Federal Deputy with indigenous and non-indigenous votes who believe in a clean and respectful party policy.
The attacks suffered by Federal Deputy Joenia in recent weeks demonstrate how much the National Congress is made up of a majority of non-indigenous and rich people who aim for profit. It has become clear that the elite does not conform to the first indigenous woman in the Federal Chamber.
We watched with indignation the various attempts by parliamentarians to disqualify the Deputy. Joenia, as a representative of the indigenous people.
In view of this, we reaffirm that Joenia is our legitimate representative in the National Congress. Her struggle is the struggle of the indigenous moment. And any attack on her affects all of us women, children, young people, men and all indigenous communities.
On behalf of the 255 communities, we express our gratitude for the work developed in these two and a half years of mandate, we highlight the firm and strong commitment to the defense of indigenous rights in the Commission on Constitution and Justice and Citizenship (CCJC), which took place this week that analyzed PL 490/2007.
We continue together in the struggle for the collective good living of indigenous peoples.
STRENGTH JOENIA, YOU REPRESENT US!
