The Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) participates in the 22nd Free Land Camp (ATL), in Brasília (DF), with a delegation of about 40 leaders from the 12 base ethnoregions, including part of the executive coordination, camped in the Ibero-American Cultural Axis, where the event takes place. Among the leaders are the General Tuxaua, Amarildo Macuxi, and the General Tuxaua of the Indigenous Women's Movement, Kelliane Wapichana.
The ATL program began on the morning of Monday (06), bringing together thousands of indigenous people from all over the country in the largest indigenous mobilization in Brazil. This year, the Camp has as its theme "Our Future Is Not for Sale: The Answer Is Us" and continues as an important space to strengthen the struggle for indigenous rights.
Within this program, the thematic table "Legal Situation of Indigenous Lands in the Brazilian Amazon: Disintrusion, Demarcation and Territorial Management" was held, which presented a general balance of the states of the Brazilian Amazon, highlighting the current scenario of indigenous territories.
During the table, the General Tuxaua of the CIR, Amarildo Macuxi, also spoke, drawing attention to the presence of miners in indigenous territories and the impacts caused by this activity."The miners are inside our territories, mainly in the Raposa Serra do Sol Indigenous Land, where they are destroying our mountain ranges, using mercury and cyanide. We have made several complaints to Funai and the MPI, and this is very serious, as it ends up involving relatives who are lured by the miners", he said.
As a way of facing this scenario, Janderley Pereira, from the Wapichana people, from the Malacacheta community, Serra da Lua region, which participates for the first time in the ATL, highlighted that territorial management has been carried out through the Territorial and Environmental Management Plans (PGTAs), also known as life plans."In our region, the management of the territory has been strengthened from the PGTAs, which guide this care and organization of the territory", he said.
MOBILIZATION IN RORAIMA
In addition to the mobilization in Brasilia, the ATL also takes place in the territory, with the realization of the ATL-Roraima, which this year brings the theme "Who killed Gabriel? Messed with one, messed with all". About 800 leaders from the 12 base ethnoregions of the CIR echo their voices in defense of justice for Gabriel Ferreira and for greater protection in the territories.
In Brasilia, the Free Land Camp continues until the 11th and, in Roraima, until the 12th, with a program that includes debate tables, lectures, exhibitions and cultural presentations.
