Yesterday (26) the students of the 9th grade of the Indigenous State School Professor Ednilson Lima Cavalcante, from the Tabalascada community, Serra da Lua region, visited the headquarters of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR). The visit is an initiative of the school for students to learn about the history of struggle and resistance of the Leaders in the defense and conquest of Indigenous territories in the State of Roraima.
The general coordination of the CIR, Edinho Batista Macuxi, the state coordination of Youth, Raquel Wapichana and Messias Macuxi, were strengthening this visit by passing on information on how the organization is acting at the local, regional, national and international levels.
The visit of the students of the Tabalascada school was a program of teacher Eliane Macuxi and teacher Deives accompanied by the leadership Noberto Wapichana. During the six years of the current coordination, the CIR had not yet received a visit from a school with teachers and students to get to know the organization.
"A very brilliant initiative. This also opens the door to other schools and teachers who sometimes end up talking a lot about other government structures, municipalities, the state, Brazil, but forget to talk about organizations and these spaces of indigenous protagonism. Today, the young people themselves have this good will to know, to learn, to value, the spaces that were conquered with a lot of work, and to still witness a work that is being done with great responsibility. To remember those who started, who in fact were the protagonists, the past coordinators, one of them is Clóvis Ambrósio and others who are really important. And it's not just about hearing the history there in the community or in the region, but having this opportunity to come to the headquarters and be part of this history, writing your own history, listening and talking in person to be able to feel and also know the structure itself today. It is an honor to receive you with great privilege", said the CIR General Coordinator, Edinho.
For Raquel, it was gratifying to receive the visit of indigenous students who come from the community, with the initiative of the teachers who brought them to learn about the history of the struggle and conquest of territories in the State of Roraima. "The important thing was that we can understand and understand together that the CIR is not only the Headquarters of the Organization, the CIR is the indigenous communities that are in the regions. It was a sharing of knowledge with the students, because like them I also learn every day from our leaders. I feel happy to be able to see that the youth engages through the history of struggle of our ancestors, because we also feel part of it, it is as if we were always there, present with them in the past fighting alongside them."
"The coming of the students of the 9th grade, elementary school II, from the Indigenous State School Professor Ednilson Lima Cavalcante, aims to bring knowledge about the history of the struggle and challenges of the indigenous peoples of Roraima and in addition to knowing the role, achievements and struggles of the CIR, so that they can become knowledgeable and have a critical formation as an indigenous citizen on the subject already mentioned." Reported the teacher in charge of Social Sciences (CS) Eliane Macuxi.
