With perseverance and attitude, 27 indigenous leaders from Roraima, from the Macuxi, Sapará, Wapichana and Taurepang Peoples, participated in the XIII General Assembly, which took place in the Uaçá Indigenous Land, Manga Indigenous Community, in the state of Amapá, from August 3rd to 5th, taking a name for the election that would choose the new executive coordination of the Indigenous Coordination of the Brazilian Amazon (COIAB). Indigenous Peoples from the States of Acre, Amazonas, Amapá, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins, among others who were also present for the important elective in which Toya Manchineri will take over as Coordinator and Alcebias will follow him as Vice Coordinator of the organization, .
Alcebias, was at the head of the Indigenous Youth Nucleus of Roraima of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR), for more than 04 years, participated in the demonstrations in Roraima and Brasília, together with the Roraima Leadership Commission, in which he was injured by a rubber bullet on June 22, 2021. The space of struggle has always been in Alcebias' life trajectory.
“My trajectory within the indigenous movement already has a little bit of baggage, we are not going to say that there is nothing, but starting with the back, it starts together with my base tuxaua, from my community, and region, to the coordinators that I had the pleasure and satisfaction of being side by side, at the time of dialoguing as a leader.
I think it was much more tense for me as a young man, to earn their respect. To be on the side, helping, and helping. Now you sit at a table or in an assembly and discuss projects and life plans, you put your point of view and your position is something else. And knowing how to earn the respect of these leaders, it wasn't easy, but we did it", he highlighted.
The youth leadership thanked the grassroots leaders for believing and who gave the opportunity to continue helping to coordinate an institution. He also mentioned his next steps as vice coordinator.
"Now it's time to get to know more closely what COIAB really is, and what it is today. To know the founders, the first discussions, first people, coordinators, what their field of vision was, and from there draw ours, not that we are better than the other. Each coordination left a mark. What will be our mark as youth? These will be the next steps." Concluded the leadership.
