AMAJARI REGION: LEGAL DEPARTMENT OF THE CIR AND RESIDENTS OF THE ARAÇÁ INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY BEGIN THE PREPARATION OF THE COMMUNITY REGULATION

The activity, held at the Tuxaua Rozildo de Lima Marques Regional Center, began on the morning of last Thursday, February 26, with the presence of teachers, tuxauas, students, coordinators, women, traditional leaders and other residents of the community.

During the meeting, the team from the Legal Department of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) presented a historical review of indigenous rights in Brazil and highlighted the importance of the Federal Constitution of 1988, which brought significant advances for the protection of indigenous peoples, such as the recognition of the original right to traditionally occupied lands, the guarantee of demarcation, respect for one's own social organization, the right to consultation and other fundamental rights, marking the overcoming of the guardianship regime.

The Internal Regulations are a normative instrument of the community itself. The document establishes the forms of community organization, the governance structure and other aspects of collective life.

The leaders present reinforced the relevance of the initiative. The tuxauas Avelino and Ezequiel emphasized that many of the rules already exist in community practice and are now being systematized in the document.

The elaboration of the regiment continues until today, Friday, 27, in the Araçá Indigenous Community, located in the Araçá Indigenous Land, Amajari ethnoregion, municipality of Amajari, state of Roraima.
