IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TERRITORIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN - PGTA: RESIDENTS OF THE MANGUEIRA INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY, IN THE AMAJARI REGION, INAUGURATE A WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM.

The Water Supply System, which was long awaited by the community, brought benefits to 08 families in a total of 32 people. Installed on the Mangueirão community farm, easy access to water is a milestone in the lives of families who work with sustainable agriculture, keeping alive the traditional knowledge passed down from generation to generation.

The inauguration took place on Thursday (14), and brought together the residents of the community, representatives of the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR), through the Department of Territorial, Environmental Management and Climate Change, and the Indigenous Environmental Building and Sanitation Service (SESANI) team, of the Special Indigenous Sanitary District of Roraima (DSEI/RR).

Manoel Alexandre, the first tuxaua of the Mangueira Indigenous Community, recalled the challenges of families to have access to water, previously carried in buckets and jerry cans on the tractor, motorcycle, wheelbarrow and on foot.

"Access to water here was very precarious, for the elderly and sick, we also have our crops and animal husbandry and we could not lose, so we sought support from the PGTA and the CIR projects and thank God we were contemplated with the supply system and today we do not need to carry water from far away here, I thank the supporter, the CIR and everyone who made it work", concluded Manoel.

The supply system was prioritized by the leaders in the Territorial and Environmental Management Plan (PGTA) of the Amajari region, the implementation brought together all the tuxauas in the Araça community in 2024, who placed the priorities in several areas.

According to Fátima André, responsible for the "Water Project", the community had a shallow tubular well, however, it was not used, because it did not have the water distribution network for the families. With the support of Nia Tero, CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) and the Special Indigenous Sanitary District of Roraima (DSEI LESTE/RR) it was possible to implement the action in the community.

Fatima also highlighted the importance of access to water, in addition to the commitment and agility of people to make the dream come true.

"Today the project serves the families and the farm of the community, we are very happy to deliver the water supply system working, this is the result of collective work, the wood to build the castle was taken from the territory itself by the residents of the community. We thank our supporters and partners who spared no effort to get the project off the ground", said Fatima.

In addition to Mangueira, other communities in the Amajari region have already benefited from the "Water Project", they are: Araçá, Novo Paraíso, Nova União, and Ananás, all of which received technical assistance from the team of the Department of Environmental Territorial Management and Climate Change (DGTAMC), coordinated by Sineia do Vale.

The Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) continues with the commitment to strengthen the autonomy of the indigenous peoples of Roraima, through the ten departments of the organization.
