The Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) was present, this Wednesday (12), at the round table “From the Territories to the World and Back: Indigenous Paths for Climate Adaptation”, held in the Blue Zone of COP30, in Belém (PA).
The high-level panel was led by Sineia do Vale, co-chair of the Indigenous Caucus, special envoy for Indigenous peoples to the COP30 Presidency, and coordinator of the Department of Territorial, Environmental and Climate Change Management (DGTAMC) at CIR. The invitation for the dialogue came from Sineia, who has been active in international forums, advocating for the voices of Indigenous peoples and strengthening their direct influence in global climate debates.
During her speech, Sineia highlighted the importance of indigenous presence in climate decision-making spaces.
“It is essential that Indigenous peoples are present and heard in these processes. We are the ones who feel the impacts of climate change on our territories every day, and we are also part of the solutions that the world needs to recognize and support.”,he stated.
The roundtable, in partnership with NICFI/Norwegian Ministry of the Environment, UNFCCC, Green Climate Fund, ELATIA and Tenure Facility, aimed to promote a strategic dialogue on policies and direct financing mechanisms for climate adaptation actions in the territories.
Among the main expected outcomes are increased visibility and participation of indigenous peoples in climate decision-making spaces, as well as the development of practical policy recommendations aimed at the UNFCCC, the Global Adaptation Goal, and national adaptation plans. The debate also sought to identify ethical and equitable ways to integrate indigenous peoples into climate finance and adaptation mechanisms.
The presence of leaders from the Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) reinforces the commitment to take the solutions and experiences that indigenous peoples have been building in protecting the forest, water, and life from their territories to the world, and to bring them back, strengthening local actions in the face of the climate crisis.
