ALLIANCE BETWEEN ORGANIZATIONS FOR THE ARTICULATION AND DEFENSE OF INDIGENOUS RIGHTS IS STRENGTHENED DURING THE 55TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES OF RORAIMA

With the participation of state and national indigenous organizations, the strengthening of unity and strategies in defense of the rights of indigenous peoples was reaffirmed.

The plenary held on Saturday afternoon (14) was closely followed by the leaders. Representatives of the Organization of Indigenous Women of Roraima (OMIRR), Organization of Indigenous Teachers of Roraima (OPIRR), Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB), Coordination of Indigenous Organizations of the Brazilian Amazon (COIAB), Union of Indigenous Women of the Brazilian Amazon (UMIAB), Council of the Ingarikó Indigenous People (COPING), Association of Indigenous Peoples of the São Marcos Land (APITSM), Association of Indigenous Peoples of Roraima (APIRR) and Indigenous Council of Roraima (CIR) participated.

"It is a great satisfaction to participate in this assembly after 22 years, today coming to represent APIRR with the CIR to strengthen ourselves as an indigenous organization. I reinforce that APIRR will always be together with the CIR to defend the rights of indigenous peoples", declared Daniel Souza, president of the board of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of Roraima.

The struggle against setbacks to the rights of indigenous peoples was also highlighted at the table, with an emphasis on the union of organizations in political incidences and grassroots mobilizations against the Time Frame.

Esley Tenente, coordinator of OPIRR, said that the new management is willing to fight against the setbacks that indigenous peoples are facing, despite the difficulties in releasing teachers and students to participate in the movement's activities.

"When the teacher has direct contact with the movement, he understands that there is no way we can sit idly by. But, unfortunately, the rules that exist today end up distancing us from the indigenous movement. Even so, OPIRR is here to walk together with the indigenous movement", highlighted the professor.

Gabriela Nascimento, coordinator of the Organization of Indigenous Women of Roraima (OMIRR), reaffirmed support for the CIR and the indigenous movement of Roraima.

"We are here once again to reaffirm our support for the struggle of the indigenous movement, firming our commitment to you to join forces in meetings, assemblies and mobilizations", said Gabriela.

For Toya Manchinere, general coordinator of COIAB, it is necessary to think about the goals and paths that indigenous peoples should follow, with strategies and occupation of spaces in the highest political instances.

"We must first think about which direction we want to follow, how we want to be in 20 or 30 years and what paths we need to take so that this alliance is strengthened. We need to have representatives in legislative assemblies, city councils, governments and in the Federal Congress. In other words, we have to put people where laws are made against us", stressed the coordinator.

"I want to tell you that in April we will go to the battlefield in the ATL/RR, in the Amajari region, and I already invite the leaders of other organizations to fight together for our rights. Let's leave pride and ego aside. On behalf of the Indigenous Council of Roraima, we are willing to walk together. We represent the tuxauas, the women and the children", said Paulo Justino, deputy general coordinator of the CIR.

Amarildo Macuxi recalled the mobilizations and incidences carried out in the defense of indigenous rights and pointed out that unity is essential to maintain the rights conquered by indigenous peoples.

At the end, the organizations reaffirmed their commitment to maintain dialogue and articulation to face together the setbacks to indigenous rights, for the good living of the peoples.
